Summary: Your email stays on your device. AI features are opt-in. We don't track you, sell your data, or serve ads.
1. Information We Collect
Email Account Credentials
When you add an email account, Signet Mail stores your authentication credentials:
- Gmail accounts: OAuth 2.0 tokens (access and refresh tokens) — your Google password is never stored
- IMAP/SMTP accounts: Your email password
All credentials are stored exclusively in the macOS Keychain, Apple's encrypted credential storage system. They are never written to disk in plaintext, never transmitted to our servers, and never shared with third parties.
Email Content
Signet Mail downloads and caches your email messages (headers, body text, attachments) in a local SQLite database on your Mac. This data:
- Is stored only on your device
- Is never transmitted to our servers
- Is deleted when you remove your account from the app
App Preferences
UI preferences (sidebar favorites, display settings) are stored using macOS UserDefaults. This data is local-only and contains no personal information.
2. AI Features and Third-Party Services
How AI Features Work
Signet Mail offers optional AI-powered features including email triage, summarization, tone detection, and draft generation. These features are:
- Disabled by default — you must explicitly enable them
- Opt-in with consent — a clear disclosure is shown before any email data is sent to an AI provider
- Configurable by provider — you choose which AI service processes your data
What Data Is Sent to AI Providers
When you enable cloud AI features and use them, the following data may be sent to your chosen provider:
- Email subject lines
- Email body text (or excerpts)
- Sender and recipient names and email addresses

When using Ollama or LM Studio, your data is processed entirely on your device and is never transmitted over the internet.
Your AI API Keys
If you provide API keys for AI services, they are stored in the macOS Keychain. They are never transmitted to our servers.
3. Data We Do NOT Collect
We do not:
- Operate servers that receive, store, or process your email
- Collect analytics, telemetry, or usage data
- Use tracking pixels, cookies, or fingerprinting
- Sell, rent, or share your personal data with third parties
- Serve advertisements

We recommend enabling macOS FileVault to encrypt your entire disk, including the app's local database.
5. Data Retention and Deletion
- Email content: Cached locally as long as the account exists. Removing an account deletes all associated data.
- Credentials: Removed from Keychain when you remove the account.
- Uninstalling: Removes the application. To remove all data, also delete
~/Library/Application Support/Signet Mail/.
6. Children's Privacy
Signet Mail is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.
7. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated effective date.
